How we're chosen to go back seem really random. If there's a pattern to it, we haven't discover it yet.

Cianwood, Olivine, Ecruteak, Cherrygrove, Violet, Mahogany and Blackthorn. A someone told me they didn't find any clues in New Bark, and I'm currently in Goldenrod. I haven't went to the Kanto region, yet.
